Running LED Circuits

I think variation of blinking LED is art, Running LED circuits that i mean is a set of LED which blinking alternately. So that LED look like running with circular motion. As usual i rarely make PCB from blank PCB. But i often bought circuit PCB like this. Because it lower cost than make from blank PCB.


As usual, i got schematic paper like this
Main component of this circuit is IC timer 555 and CD 4017. I use Green LED, Blue LED and Red LED purpose to look like colorful. Total 20 of LED used. VR 20 K is potensiometer or trimpot that used to adjust speed of LED blink.

Mini Police Alarm

Mini Police alarm actually is modified from siren circuits. Multivibrator circuits has been added as an input to siren circuits. Continuity from Siren Circuits that i've ever post. So this is schematic.

And this is photos of PCB that i've bought from top and bottom view.


Multivibraror is circuit which produce simultanously square wave purpose to generate vibration. This is usefull to vibrating siren sound. Fast vibration make siren sound like police alarm, and slow vibration make siren sound like Ambulance or Firefighter alarm.

So, this circuits able to modificated to many various alarm or sound. If you change value of C4 ( 0.05 uF) or 5 nano Farad with smaller value e.g 2.2 nano Farad, sound will be heard like bird sound.


I think this circuit is very cool to modified into many variation of sound alarm. As usual to try this circuit, i use 9 Volt Battery, Push Button Switch and Mini Speaker. As shown in this picture.

Simple LED Flip Flop

I tried to modify existing circuit by adding a stereo potensiometer so that the duration of blinking LED could be adjust. I use 100 K ohm potensiometer to adjust duration and 10 K Ohm that useful as limit base of each transistor.


Potensiometer and resistor 10 K Ohm use to substitute resistor 56 K Ohm.

Simple Siren Circuit

Continue from previous story,

Simple Led Flip Flop

I was buy some circuits PCB not only LED circuits but also Siren Circuits. Siren is like alarm which scream tone. In my country, siren often use in firefighter car otherwise launch time alarm for worker in the industrial factory . This is PCB that I was buy.


After open plastic package, I got this pieces of paper and PCB of course .




And It was i assemble like this


After that i use Push Button Switch according schematic paper. Push Button Switch use to start and stop siren buzzing. When position start ( Push Button Pushed ), The Siren sound is longer then higher tone. When position stop ( Push Button Release), The Siren sound is longer then lower tone until silent. This is it.


You can look this picture to overall wiring, I use 8 Ohm, 0.5 Watt mini speaker 2.5 Inch. On the schematic paper describe that circuits work at 6 Volt. But i prefer to use 9 Volt Battery.

Simple LED Flip Flop

LED Flip Flop is one of many circuits have I made when I start to learn about electronics circuits. In years of 2002 i often to assembling some circuits with PCB. Of course many PCB sold on the electronics part store at that time and until now. I like to assembling several LED circuits because all of them can blink with very beautiful.

Yesterday, I visited at electronics part store which old shopkeepers on my city. In the store, I looked from left to right. I admired because he still kept very old component and circuits PCB. How old this part can be seen from price on the package. I'm sure that is old price.

I bought some PCB, one of them is LED Flip Flop, you can look at this photo.





If i bought PCB Saturn product that well known merk, I always got a paper pieces that describe schematic of PCB like this.


Finally, I was assemble this, and I’m so happy because not for success to assemble but I can remember while sit in the Technical High School from 2002 to 2005.

Simple Water Level Alarm

In the bathrooms, sometimes i often open the tap water to fill the water tank and leave it to do other activities. But i often forgot to close tap water, After that, the water is spilled to much. Because water direct flow from electric pump, of course it also make a wasteful electricity. 

Not all water filling in the bathroom using automatic valves that will close when the water is full. One easy solution is install a water level alarm. The alarm will buzzing to people to tell that the tub is full. Water level alarm can be assembled with very easy. And then some of the main components that used are :
  • 9v battery
  • Piezo buzzer
  • Transistor c 9014
  • 470 ohm resistor
This is schematic of water level alarm that I was use, This is so simple and just need only 4 component electronics to make it work.

This is water level alarm that I was build. I soldering all component on PCB. I use two copper for water sensor. I got copper from piece of NYM cable. when both copper exposed to water, the alarm will sounding “ Tiiiiit……………”


this is a picture of the installation the circuit in the bathroom, both of copper can adjusted to level water which desired.


Why use batteries? This is the best way to avoid electrical line hazards. Of course safety is the main reason.  I use 9 Volt battery because a piezo buzzer that I used works on voltages from 6 to 9 volt. At a voltage 9 Volts, piezo buzzer may be ringing very loudly.

Ohh...No.....Don’t Throw Your Empty Battery

In this post, I want to share about 1.5 Volt batteries that have been discharged. You have many empty battery in your house? Sometimes a battery that we use have not really empty. Generally, people will throw it away. but the battery still save a little of energy that can be used with a simple trick.


Joule thief is one of the tricks to use empty battery, joule thief will increase the battery voltage up to dozens volt. Joule Thief circuit is very simple to make. Many articles on the Internet that post this circuit, many communities on social media sharing and experimenting about this circuit. People often call this circuits with “JT”
Main component is

>> Transistor type C 9014
>> 14:14 coil with ferrite toroid from Power Supply of CPU and  wire from UTP cable.
>> 680 Ohm Resistor
>> 5 Watt LED HPL
>> Small Switch
>> Battery Housing
>> 1.5 Volt AA Battery

Joule thief is able to turn on the HPL LED only with 1 piece of 1.5 Volt battery. HPL LED is High Power LED which can lit if get voltage supply around 2.8 Volt. I use this circuits to emergency lamp. Besides that, I want to take advantage from empty battery before it really discharge.  So, there are many people develop this circuits become a mobile charger. Lime Battery ( Part 3 )

This time I tried to post something about Lime Battery. First I was curious and then I bought some lime in a shop in the market complex. The price is cheap Rp 1000 each piece. Then I use a copper and nails which previously used to arrange a potato battery.


Finally, the results are surprising. 4 pieces potato and 4 Cups salt water usually only produces a voltage about 2.8 volts. But the 4 pieces of lemon can produce voltages up to 4 volts.


One thing I don’t understand is, when the battery is loaded LED, a third type of battery voltage drop to around 1.8 Volt.

I have not tried further to find the reason.

Potatoes Battery ( Part 2 )


In the previous post, I tried to make the battery from salt water, I just practice one of the many articles on the internet. This time I tried to practice something else, that is a battery of potatoes.

One evening I went to the market and buy some potatoes, first I bought just to boil and eat it. Somehow after seeing a YouTube video and some internet articles, I became interested to make battery from potatoes.

I took some copper wires in warehouse, then I took a few nails made of aluminum. Of course, the copper cable is used as the positive pole and nail as the negative pole. This is a picture of copper and nails that I use.

One potato produce 0.7 volts, so if 4 pieces of potato are arranged in series will produce 2.8 volts, this value is enough to turn on the Red LED lights. the measurement results are almost the same with the salt water batteries on the previous post.

Salt Water Battery ( Part 1 )

I have seen many more articles on internet about salt battery, I was curious and tried it.

My first experiment was failed. I tried to fill a large container with water and salt. And then i put copper and aluminium into water for positive and negative pole. I have measuring and the result is only 0.7 Volt. I knew that this is not enough to turn on the LED. You can look at the picture below.


My second experiment was succeed, I took four small cups and fill them with salt water. After that I tried to connect each positive and negative pole thus forming a series circuits. And then...taa..daaaaa..........
my red LED has been lit. I have measuring and the result is 2.8 Volt. This voltage value is enough to turn on the LED.

I have observed that LED still lit after more than 5 hours. For more detail you can watch this video.

Simple Lamp Flasher

Long time ago, some student in my class said story about " How to make simple Lamp Flasher ". Of course i'm still on High School. My Friend said that we only need Incandescent Lamp and TL Starter to made this.

One day i got little time to made it, and somehow i'm happy with this experiment, I know some people maybe will laugh to me about this. Because it's too simple and many people ever did it. But I believe that sometimes, simple things are able to make you happy.

This is my lamp and TL starter, I Have been bought in an electrical store near my house.

Beep Buzzer

One day, i visited my favourite shopping place in Surabaya my love city, Of course no other except 
"Genteng Market". I usually walk trough several alley and looking for unique something or some electronics part. That day i was looking for " Piezo Buzzer " to my favourite store. Sellers at the store ask to me,

Sellers  : What are you looking for ?
Me        : I was looking for " Piezo Buzzer" for around 9 Volt or 12 Volt.
Sellers  : There are two type, Buzzer with sound "Beeeeeep" or "Beep ... Beep .... Beep" ?

And then i was currious, I usually found Buzzer with sound "Beeeeeep" then i knew that evidently it has two type. Without much thought, i just said to sellers,

Me         : I will buy both of them, one for "Beeeeeep" and one for "Beep... Beep.... Beep".
Sellers   : Okay, the prize of one buzzer is Rp 7000. So total price is Rp 14000.
Me         : Okay, thanks.
